With all the solid music released in 2007, RMR thought that we would allow certain staffers to contribute their top albums of this year individually rather than collectively. These lists promise to offer unbridled opinions, rampant variety, and opportunities...
Dope Pope, King Self, and Negashi Armada are living a dream as Supreeme, a rap group consisting of three Atlanta natives recently drafted to Warner Bros. Records from the California based indie Record Collection.
GB Leighton is probably Minnesota’s best kept secret. Brian Leighton, the front man for the band, has been playing clubs in the Minneapolis region for almost a decade and a half, drawing huge crowds from an ever growing loyal fan base. He’s also one of the most productive songwriters coming out of the Twin Cities. His concerts are high octane parties that get people up and out of their seats, dancing and singing along.
For over three decades, America has been writing and touring, making it one of the longest running country rock phenomenons in the world. The band currently is touring to support their latest recording, Here and Now, that is a very forward-looking venture, produced in collaboration with indie artists Adam Schlessinger from Fountains of Wayne, and James Iha of Smashing Pumpkins. They also will be touring with Chicago later this summer.
“Death Threat,” “Warrior,” “Vampire,” “Piston,” “Danger Girl,” “Headhunter,” “Aggressor.” There’s a common link between all of these DJ Hive track titles, and that link is his mantra and record label: Violence.

With Bonnaroo and Intonation Music Festivals over for the summer, there's still plenty left to fill your hot, sunny days with cool tunes and great atmostphere.

It's probably a bit too late to get your tickets, but Minnesota's 10,000 Lakes Festival started yesterday and conitnues on into this weekend. With bands like OAR, Phil Lesh, Trey Anastasio, Keller Williams, and Umphrey's McGee, it is sure to be one of the best festivals for lovers of jam bands. Expect a live review from RMR in the very near future!

Next weekend is Pitchfork Media's Pitchfork Music Festival. It features acts like Yo La Tengo, Tapes 'n Tapes, Spoon, The Walkmen, Aesop Rock, Diplo, and the National. They've already sold out of 2-day passes, but if you hurry you might be able to score a one day pass.

In that weekend Chicago will be bombarded by not one, but TWO festivals. On Sunday, while lovers of new music and indie vibes will be at Pitchfork in Union Park, angsty teens will be emo tapping and screamo punks will losing their voices over at the Tweeter Center. That's right it's The Warped Tour, which also hits Indy's "Verizon Wireless Music Center" (or "Deer Creek" for those of us that can't label anything art related with a cell phone company) on July 28.

Perhaps the best line-up of the year comes the following weekend, when once again Chicago will be busy with music lovers. This year's Lollapalooza has a stellar line-up including some of the best hip-hop, indie rock, pop and electronic music.

Red Hot Chili Peppers. The Flaming Lips. Kanye West. Queens of the Stone Age. Death Cab for Cutie. My Morning Jacket. Common. Matisyahu. Sonic Youth. Iron and Wine. The Dresden Dolls. Blackalicious. The Go! Team. Wolfmother. Mix Master Mike..... the list is endless.

Tickets are now $150 for 3 days (about $1/band) or $65 for a one day pass.

And finally, to bring a sweet ending to a great season of festivals in the Midwest, Indianapolis will host Midwest Music Summit, August 10-12. This fest features mostly independent bands from around the Midwest and even some from outside the Middle Coast.

Highlights include Dr. Octagon (Kool Kieth!), Margot & The Nuclear So and So's, Silversun Pickups, Local H, Murder By Death, America Owns The Moon, Gentlemen Caller, Everthus the Deadbeats, Ari.Ari. and more!

Rock Music Review will be hosting a showcase with TheMuncieScene.com at Indy CD & Vinyl on August 11. See the flyer below.

300+ bands, 20+ stages, 3 days, 3 nights ... $20 in advance!
