Madonna
Confessions on a Dance Floor
I remember "Like a Prayer". That was a great song. To this very day I'll still sing along with it in the car in my best falsetto. That's the Madonna we all love and miss. That's the Madonna that went M.I.A. from 1998 to 2005. What happened? I don't know. Well, Confessions On A Dancefloor is definitely a step back in the right direction. When I first heard "Hung Up", I was hooked. It's infectious; one of those songs that demands to be danced to. It's a car dance worthy song. It also made my top 25 most played songs in a matter of days, quite a feat. They couldn't have picked a stronger lead single. The rest of the album is admittedly a bit repetitive. Tick-tocky rhythms, stacatto synths, and muted effects. But really, it doesn't bother me. It's hypnotizing. I love the strings in the intro to "Let It Will Be". The euro-disco feel is a breath of fresh air from what I've been listening to as of late. One thing about the album that is laughable is this line from "I Love New York": "I don't like cities, but I like New York / Other places make me feel like a dork". Huh? I didn't think I heard it right at first listen. I guess Madonna didn't want me to walk away without something to make fun of. She's always been such an easy target. While I'm sure I'll be sick of it in another week or so, I'm addicted to this album right now. But hey, isn't that what pop music is for? It isn't made for people to like. It's made for people to love, encouraging impulse buys in the mall when you see the display for the album in the record store.
